Strengthening Cooperation on Groundwater Governance with a Delegation from Tajikistan

The Geneva Water Hub had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Tajikistan for an exchange focused on groundwater governance, data monitoring, and cross-border cooperation. The visit highlighted shared commitments to advancing water for peace.

The Geneva Water Hub was honoured to welcome a delegation from Tajikistan visiting Geneva on Saturday. The discussions centered on groundwater governance, with a particular emphasis on monitoring systems, data management, and cooperation across borders.

Our Operations Director, Dr. Caroline Pellaton, presented ongoing work in the Sahel region linking groundwater management to peacebuilding. Erik Schnetzler introduced the Geneva Water Hub’s contribution to elevating water for peace in global policy spaces, including through the Dushanbe Water Process. Nadira Mukhamejan, PhD researcher at the University of Geneva, showcased the new e-learning course developed jointly with the OSCE and partners on Digitalization in the Water Sector.

We were also pleased to hear Marie Lecompte from the Canton of Geneva (GE-Environnement) share the example of the Transboundary Genevois Aquifer—an insightful model of cooperative groundwater governance.
