On the occasion of the ceremony celebrating the 25th annniversary of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia (ICWC), Mr Yerlan Nysanbayev, Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has presented the main recommendations of the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace. He underlined the need to strengthen water cooperation to achieve peace and security in the region.

The ceremony took place on the 23 and 24 of November 2017 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Representatives from governments, international organizations and academics attended the conference. Discussion topics included transboundary water cooperation, integrated water resources management, the role of young professionals, the need to enhance education on water issues, the financial and economic mechanisms for water management as well as the linkages between water and ecology. On behalf of the Secretariat of the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace, Mara Tignino, Reader at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva and Coordinator of the Platform for International Water Law at the Geneva Water Hub, presented on the relationship between financial mechanisms and joint water infrastructure.
