On 9 October 2025, the Club Diplomatique de Genève and the Geneva Water Hub, co-hosted an evening of dialogue on “Water Diplomacy: A Catalyst for Multilateralism.”
The discussion was opened by Ambassador Kadra Ahmed Hassan, Permanent Representative of Djibouti to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Vice-President of the Club Diplomatique, who reminded participants that water diplomacy lies at the heart of today’s global challenges, yet remains too rarely addressed.
Moderated by Dr. Danilo Türk, Lead Political Advisor at the Geneva Water Hub, President of the Club de Madrid, and former President of Slovenia, the debate brought together distinguished voices from diplomacy, international law, and sustainable development:
- Prof. Mark Zeitoun, Director General, Geneva Water Hub
- Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)
- Ambassador Jamal Al Musharakh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Office at Geneva
- Karen E. Wilson, Founder, GV Partners
Speakers explored how equitable and sustainable water governance can foster trust, prevent conflict, and inspire new forms of multilateral cooperation. From de-weaponizing water to strengthening transboundary collaboration and promoting inclusive innovation, the exchange underscored that water is not merely a resource — it is a bridge for peace and a foundation for global stability.
The event reaffirmed Geneva’s unique role as a neutral platform where diplomacy, science, and partnerships converge to turn dialogue into action.
