The Quest for Atmospheric Water — International Colloquium

Cloud seeding, fog nets, atmospheric river modification: technologies to capture water from the sky are multiplying, while international law still struggles to grasp this invisible, borderless resource. Who does it belong to? Who may capture, divert or regulate it?

Under the scientific direction of Professor Laurence Boisson de Chazournes (University of Geneva / Geneva Water Hub) and Professor Thomas Römer (Administrator of the Collège de France), the colloquium brings together legal scholars, philosophers, historians, ethnographers and theologians around four panels exploring the legal invisibility of atmospheric water, the logics of its control, the frameworks governing its exploitation, and the ethical limits of its capture.

The Geneva Water Hub is actively engaged in the event: Mara Tignino, Lead Legal Specialist, will moderate the panel "Controlling Atmospheric Water" and speak on the modification of the environment in public international law.
