Environmental Peacebuilding: Exploring Theory, Law, and Practice
In the past decade, environmental peacebuilding has emerged as a multidisciplinary approach that recognizes the pivotal role of the environment and natural resources throughout the conflict life-cycle.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, the Geneva Water Hub is proud to present a specialized training course on "Environmental Peacebuilding" to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This course aims to comprehensively explore the theoretical foundations, legal frameworks, and challenges associated with environmental peacebuilding. Participants will delve into various aspects, including the evolution, components, and different approaches employed in peacebuilding and environmental peacebuilding; the significance of environmental factors in conflict and post-conflict situations; the relevant legal frameworks that guide and support environmental peacebuilding; and emerging challenges, issues, and the prospects of environmental peacebuilding.
This training course is tailored for professionals engaged in various sectors such as military, law enforcement, diplomacy, NGOs, or international organizations, with a keen interest in humanitarian, peace, and development initiatives.
Course Objectives:
Understand and analyze the intricate interplay between natural resources, the environment, and armed conflicts.
Evaluate the environmental dimensions of peacebuilding in both conflict and post-conflict settings.
Explore relevant legal frameworks pertinent to environmental peacebuilding initiatives.
Identify and address the challenges and opportunities inherent in environmental peacebuilding efforts.
Methodology:
Our training course employs an interactive approach, blending lectures, panel discussions, case studies, and group activities to facilitate substantive and practical knowledge exchange among participants and facilitators. Through this methodology, participants will gain insights into the conceptual foundations, legal frameworks, and strategies necessary for effective environmental peacebuilding.
Upon successful completion of the training course, participants will receive a certificate of participation from the University of Geneva, recognizing their commitment to advancing environmental peacebuilding initiatives.
