At the Geneva Water Hub, strengthening the links between research, legal scholarship, and water diplomacy is central to supporting more cooperative and sustainable water governance. In this context, we are pleased to highlight the engagement of Dr Mara Tignino, Scientific Director of the Geneva Water Hub, in the upcoming first World Congress on Water Law, organised by the International Association for Water Law (AIDA).

The congress will take place in June 2026 in Oslo, bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers working on the governance of shared water resources.

Dr Mara Tignino is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Congress and will chair the Research Day on 23 June, dedicated to presenting and discussing emerging academic work in the field of international water law.

The congress aims to strengthen dialogue between legal scholarship, policy practice, and water diplomacy, at a time when transboundary water governance faces growing pressures from climate change, geopolitical tensions, and competing water uses.

Call for research submissions – deadline extended to 31 March 2026

Researchers working on international water law, transboundary water governance, and related legal or policy questions are invited to submit their work for the Research Day.

This session will provide an opportunity to present new research and contribute to global discussions shaping the future of water governance.
