The Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace developed the "A Matter of Survival" Report, which underscores that the global water challenge encompasses not only development and human rights but also peace and security. Urgent action is required at all levels, from the United Nations Security Council and other multilateral organizations to grassroots institutions. Addressing this challenge necessitates new thinking, practices, and institutions across diplomacy, international law, data management, finance, security management, technology, climate change, and pollution control.

The report offers concrete recommendations in these areas, emphasizing that managing the global water challenge is paramount—it is a matter of survival. This vision continues to guide the Geneva Water Hub's activities through 2030.

"A Matter of Survival" was launched in Geneva and New York in September 2017, featuring speakers such as H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, and H.E. Mr. Didier Burkhalter, Federal Councillor and Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

As the Panel's Secretariat, the Geneva Water Hub has actively pursued the recommendations outlined in "A Matter of Survival" through the "Determined Steps" and "Intensified Action" reports.
