At the initiative of the Senegalese Presidency of the United Nations Security Council an open debate on Water, Peace and Security.

On 22 November 2016 took place at the initiative of the Senegalese Presidency of the United Nations Security Council an open debate on Water, Peace and Security.

It was the first formal debate on this issue within this forum. The initiative of putting the issue of water and peace on the agenda of the Security Council was largely welcomed and the number of States that took the floor shows that the prominence of this issue is growing in the international agenda. The work of the Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace falls within this dynamic.
